Selfpublishing - Why you need some KDP in your life!

Picture
KDP sounds like another bad street drug or super nutrient to stop yourself from dying before you reach the age of 500. KDP is neither. It is far, far better.
Kindle Direct Publishing used to be the company to publish, display and distribute your book in Kindle format.
When I first started writing I printed out and made my own books in my living room. It was quite time consuming and I did pay some money for paper, print cartridges, photocopying and time.
But all this was worth it. I saw my book in a paperback format without paying hundreds half a fortune to a supposed Self-Publishing company. My problem was that I still needed to find people to buy my book.
I believed my book needed an International Standard Book Number (ISBN) with the associated barcode for some authenticity. There is a practical reason ISBN is important on a book though. It makes the associated book known and available to booksellers world-wide in a catalogue of books published every year. If you make a book in your living room you need to buy 10 of these numbers so a bit wasteful unless you are going to definitely write 10 books.
It was a year or so before I came across CreateSpace.com. The print on demand (POD) company was affiliated to Amazon. This company was the reason I was able to get 4 books published with an ISBN and available on Amazon … world-wide … for free.
Free to sign up. Free to upload my book and cover. Free to obtain an ISBN. Free to proofread. Free to be available at a price I decided on Amazon. Free to be printed and sent to anyone at the time of purchase.
Towards the end of 2017, CreateSpace has been moved under KDP as an umbrella site for self-publishing in both paper backed and Kindle formats.
Personally I was a bit nervous about this but needlessly. It is better. I publish in both formats so why not have the both on one website.
The next few posts will help you navigate this site and get a book published and available on Amazon.

I have a few books available to buy on Amazon and I wrote, published and put them there without paying any money. There are ten times more books on my computer, in my head and in my dreams at various stages of developement.
There is a lot I want to share about how to write a book, how to self-publish it and how to market it ... all for free. Yes I will give the information for free in these blogs but what I mean is you can write and get your book on Amazon for free.
You do not have to pay any company at all, so block those publisher's emails and read the blogs here to acheive the same result for free.
